SUNSET DELIGHT

SUNSET DELIGHT

I went to a beach in San Diego to watch the sunset and was delighted to find dozens of shorebirds and gulls there. Most of them were in flocks and it was difficult to take a picture of them with the bright sun setting behind them. However, after the sunset - the sky burst with colours and luckily several birds continued to forage in the shallow waters. The light was dipping fast and I found a Marbled Godwit, a little away from its flock. I took the opportunity to get this graceful silhouette shot with the bright sunset colours behind it.

Marbled Godwits are large shorebirds known for their impressive long-distance migrations. They can travel up to 7,000 miles (11,000 kilometers) during their migratory journeys, which typically take them from their breeding grounds in northern regions, such as the Arctic tundra, to their wintering grounds in southern coastal areas, such as the Gulf of Mexico and parts of Central America.  Their long-distance flights are seen as symbols of endurance, determination, and connection to ancestral lands.
